Founded in 2003, Theatre B has grown to an ensemble of 16 artists, with two part-time staff and a Board of Directors comprised of ensemble and community members. The Artistic Direction of the company lives in the ensemble – a mix of displaced professionals and emerging artists who share all responsibilities of program development and production. This model encourages experienced artists to maintain their craft, while young artists assume greater responsibility guided by mentorship and peer learning.
Over the years, Theatre B has brought to life a wide variety of the latest award-winning plays and bold, untested new works. Though the titles may be unfamiliar, audiences trust Theatre B to produce shows with high artistic integrity. Theatre B’s programming includes Mainstage productions; a Sunday Salon discussion series; an Incubator for new play development; Community Collaborations; college internships; B Emerging Artist Training (BEAT); and B AT HOME, a variety of artist choice presentations offered online during Covid. Mainstage and Salons are standard every season. The company rotates the other programs based on community relevance, funding partners, artistic interest, and organizational capacity.
