REARRANGING THE FURNITURE OF YOUR MIND

The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh

Theatre B rings in 2009 with the deeply unsettling and incredibly thought-provoking adult drama, The Pillowman, by Martin McDonagh. Staged by seasoned director, Brad Delzer (A Tuna Christmas, Sylvia, Kuwait), starring Theatre B favorites Scott Horvik and Tucker Lucas, and featuring local actors Joe Geinert and Stephen Wilson, The Pillowman is certain to pack a punch and leave the audience breathless. The show will run from February 5-28 at 716 Main Ave., Fargo. Tickets are on sale now.

In McDonagh’s twisted and often terrifying tale, Katurian (Wilson) is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of recent child murders. As he tries to explain his notions of truth and justice to the darkly comic and curiously contradictory cops, Katurian is forced to choose between his family, his art, and his own life.

The New York Times called The Pillowman a, “…spellbinding, stunner of a play…,” New York Magazine claimed, “Martin McDonagh can manage creepiness as well as anyone, and black humor with prime acumen,” and Talkin’ Broadway concluded, “The Pillowman addresses not only the terrifying and redemptive power of stories and the hold they can exert on us, but spins a spellbinding yarn of its own along the way.” Regardless of the critics’ reviews, or your thoughts on government, censorship, and storytelling in general, one thing is certain; The Pillowman will keep you on the edge of your seat and dish up plenty of food for thought. This cutting-edge work is for mature audiences only and yields controversial and extreme content and subject matter.
