ROMEO AND JULIET by William Shakespeare
The first production of our Mainstage season is an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, an exciting co-production with Theatre NDSU. The production opens at NDSU’s Walsh Theatre before transferring to Theatre B. The star-crossed lovers of the title must be among the best-known dramatic characters who bridge relationship divisions as they fall in love with one another despite the generations-old feud between their families. The script for our production is trimmed down and refined to tell this classic story with tighter focus, more momentum and a contemporary sensibility–or as I like to call, it’s Shakespeare with a sharpened edge.
– Jon Micheels Leiseth, Theatre B Artistic Director
Performances:
Week 1 NDSU: Walsh Theatre October 16, 17, 18
Week 2 Theatre B: October 24, 25 & 26 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday);
Sunday Matinee and ASL Performance : October 26th at Theatre B
Week 3 Theatre B: October 29, 30, 31, November 1 (Wednesday – Saturday);
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet gets trimmed and sharpened in this fresh adaptation from Theatre B’s Artistic Director, Jon Micheels Leiseth. Set in an imagined world that fuses the styles from the Italian Renaissance and 1940’s Italy, this fresh new take is full of momentum, quirkiness, movement, and music that are thoroughly modern. In the midst of this sumptuous danger, the ‘star-crossed lovers’ attempt to bridge the boundaries that the authority and family have set to keep them apart.
True enough to the original for the fans of the bard, crisp and clear enough for the easily bored, with twists to intrigue the familiar. Join us to experience this exciting collaboration between Theatre B and Theatre NDSU!
