I apologize for the time that has passed between posts. Blogs are only interesting if they keep people coming back for more, and while Theatre B always has something going on, some of them are hard to write about.

We left off at the end of December with a post about our dear, dear friend Matthew. It’s hard to lose a friend, a collaborator, a contributor. But here at Theatre B, we consider the ensemble to be an Intentional Family, and it’s even harder to lose a brother. While the menacing C-word had been a burden on Matt for years, it still doesn’t make it any easier to say goodbye.

So in the past month, that’s what we’ve been doing. We’ve been grieving as a family. We’ve been remembering as a family. We’ve been digesting as a family.

So what does this have to do with looking forward? Well on Feb. 14, Theatre B is participating in Giving Hearts Day, a one-day fundraising blitz for nonprofits in the Fargo-Moorhead area, put on by the Dakota Medical Foundation.  This is our first year participating, and we are really excited to meet the criteria to do this.

Before Matthew passed, Theatre B received word of an anonymous donation to be used as a match for Giving Hearts Day. It was decided last fall that this money should be used to honor Matthew. We were so fortunate to share this wonderful news with him, and to have the opportunity to chat about what he thinks is important; where he wants to see Theatre B grow.

When he passed, his family graciously requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Theatre B. Matthew was important to so many people that his fund is already off to a great start. And on February 14, we’re hoping to blow Giving Hearts Day out of the water by honoring Matthew and helping sustain Theatre B for (hopefully) many more years.

So please, if you can, take a moment of peace today to remember Matthew. And keep Theatre B in your hearts and minds in February as we reach out and raise money to sustain our organization.
