In this fresh and funny “holiday” drama, the Schwartz siblings gather for a Yarzheit – the anniversary of their father’s death.

And like with any distanced relatives, things get awkward and complicated when everyone’s closer.

An Interview With Cedar Remmen

Cedar Remmen (Lighting Design) is a freelance designer in the FM area making his Theatre B debut. Recent lighting designs include FMCT (Noises Off!), FM Opera (Three Decembers) and Theatre NDSU (Tuck Everlasting). He finished a B.F.A. in Theatre Design and Tech from NDSU where he has returned to become the Scenic Shop Supervisor. He is excited to be joining Theatre B and hopes you enjoy The Last Schwartz.

What is your theatrical background? What is your history with Theatre B?

I have been involved in the technical side of theatre for over 7 years and been a lighting designer for the past 4 years. This is my first Theatre B show but I have seen a handful of productions.

What does a Lighting Designer do?

A lighting designer creates the atmosphere, mood, time of day, etc tells the audience what to look at by changing where and how much light is on stage.

What part of the design process do you find to be the most fun? What about the most challenging?

The part of design that I find the most fun is watching the show evolve through dress rehearsals from a rough introduction of all the tech elements into the final product. The most challenging is finding the right colors that mix well together and create the look you want.

What are some specific aspects of the Last Schwartz lighting design that make you really happy or proud?

My favorite part of the design for Last Schwartz has been creating the world of Simon.

What is something an audience member should look for or pay attention to, when they see the show?

The audience should pay attention to the way the lights build the world inside of Simon’s mind throughout the show.
